Leaders start here: MCSD opens preschool enrollment for 2026-27

WRITTEN BY EMILY BANKS, PRESCHOOL COORDINATOR

The Marshalltown Community School District (MCSD) has opened enrollment for its 2026-27 preschool programs. Classrooms are located in all six district elementary schools.  The program aims to provide a seamless transition into kindergarten while offering a high-quality, research-based educational foundation.

The Frog Street Curriculum focuses on the whole child. Integrating physical, social, and academic growth with hands-on learning provides learning for all students. They engage in nine rotating themes throughout the year, covering essential milestones such as:

  • Early Literacy & Language: Building the building blocks of reading.

  • Mathematical Foundations: Introducing numbers and logic through play.

  • Social-Emotional Development: Teaching self-regulation and peer interaction.

  • Creative Expression: Daily music, movement, and hands-on learning centers.

Understanding that logistics can be a barrier to preschool, MCSD offers the program at no cost to families through the Statewide Voluntary Preschool Program. There are no fees or registration charges. The district provides a free breakfast or lunch to every student and offers qualifying families access to bus transportation.

For families seeking alternative environments, the district continues its partnership with local programs - Bobcat Academy, St. Francis Catholic School and the Marshalltown YMCA-YWCA

The program is open to children who turn four years old by Sept. 15. Additionally, three-year-olds with an Individualized Education Program (IEP) are eligible to participate. Classes run half-days, five days a week (with a few exceptions to allow for teacher Professional Development).

"We are excited to partner with families and welcome our youngest Bobcats into an environment where they can explore and grow," said Preschool Program Coordinator Emily Banks.
